West Coast Wilderness Railway

This extraordinary railway was built over 100 years ago, and was recently re-opened as a tourist railway. Using a rack and pinion system, the Abt Railway takes you through some incredibly beautiful and harsh scenery.

The play tells the dramatic and hilarious true story of the Great Escape from Sarah Island in Strahan, Tasmania. Delightful entertainment!

Trail Walks

The trail follows the foreshore, offering wonderful views of the historic town and its harbour. Now a fully sealed, concrete trail, it follows the former railway that connected the Abt rack railway from Queenstown with the main line north to Zeehan and Burnie. The Abt railway is now an operational tourist railway which operates daily.
